My personal opinion is that sushi is the king of cuisines (but put a pizza in front of me and I might go back on my word). Regardless, sushi rocks and I’m going to review today a meal I had at Zushi Puzzle, a small and nondescript sushi joint located in the Marina district, just a short walk from the heart of Chestnut street.
Before we get into it, I feel like I must disclose that I was hungry. Very hungry. And I left very full. So keeping my portions in mind (no need to order as much as myself – classic!) let’s get to it.
I almost always order Chirashi. I’m a sashimi kind of gal and the Chirashi gives me a good variety of sashimi cut fish with the tasty sushi rice. Due to my hunger-level however, I decided to get my sashimi fix by ordering the sashimi salad appetizer and accompanying that with the ‘Beth knows best’ roll.
The sashimi salad was a huge portion. The fish was fresh and the salad dressing was a great compliment to both the greens and fish, making the whole thing work well in combination together. While the fish was a bit thin, it was still fresh and tasty and I would order this appetizer again – perhaps for the whole meal.
The roll was delicious, and when it came out the softshell crab was still a bit warm. The roll consisted of softshell crab, topped with Tuna, and Hamachi with a ponzu sauce drizzled on top. This roll isn’t listed on the menu but rather on the propped-up side menu that stays on the table (for some reason every sushi restaurant has one of these menus). The rolls on this menu were all quite extensive which made choosing one a very difficult decision! I was happy with the taste and quality of my roll – it was only 6 pieces but considering how much there was stuffed into it, it was quite filling.
Although the service was slow and the restaurant smell (yes that’s a thing) and atmosphere weren’t the most pleasant, the quality of my meal here makes me more than willing come back.
