I simply couldn’t visit London without a curry blog review. While I’ve had a good many curries here, I’m going to review today Lahore kebab house – a Pakistani restaurant that may not look like much from the outside, but is as close to the Curry throne as Dishoom and Sheba.
The atmosphere is fun while the walls are bare. Bargain prices, large group tables, LED screens, and a glass wall revealing kitchen staff hard at work, all form the basis of this large and noisy restaurant. Part of the restaurants appeal lies in the BYO policy, which saves money on the bill and is really quite convenient considering the grocery store right next door (no planning needed here!). With lines that snake far outside the door during weekends, save yourself some time and head here on a weekday.
We barely looked at the menu. We figured at a place as established as this, it would only be right to leave our order in the waiter’s hands. We ended up with lamb curry, and chicken tikka masala paired with yellow rice and buttery garlic naan. (Ok the garlic naan was my choice but I couldn’t leave that up to fate!)
The lamb curry was deliciously tender and saucy. Although on the spicier side, both curries were extremely flavorful and came in hearty portions. (No stingy 3 cubes of chicken per curry here). The garlic naan wasn’t fluffy (or large) enough for my liking, which was quite disappointing considering my whole-hearted love for the bread, but calling naan bad is like calling bacon bad … it doesn’t really exist.
I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: being stuffed for a £20 tab for two is flat out awesome (and equally rare in London). Lahore, you did well and your BYO policy is the cherry on top of an authentic and vibrant dining experience.
