With Greek food being one of my favourite cuisines, I’m absolutely delighted to be reviewing a fantastic meal at UK Camden restaurant, Andy’s Taverna. On a Saturday night the place was packed – and yet without a reservation my friend and I still managed to get a table in the courtyard due to lucky timing. On a beautiful night I was happy to be seated with a view of the sky, with the only downside being that smoking is allowed and non-smokers like myself don’t always like mixing smoke with food. Nonetheless we were lucky enough to not have that interrupt our meal.
With a menu that serves all Greek classics, I finally narrowed my order down to their whole fish, Sea Bream, which seemed to be the crowd favourite at most tables. The tzatziki appetizer served with warmed bread was the perfect pre-meal bite to help us relax as the order took a while to arrive.
The fish came whole with a simple wedge of lemon, along with a side of potatoes, and Greek salad. The potatoes were extremely hot and tasty with amazing seasoning which made it difficult to leave any on the plate, and the Greek salad was perfect for sharing. My fish was perfectly cooked to my liking and having to de-bone the fish myself made for a long and relaxed meal. With a bottle of house wine only costing 15 pounds, Andy’s Taverna makes for one hell of a night out. The portions here are generous and the price tag very modest for the quality. (I’ve paid double the price for fish that was not nearly as tasty). Located just off Camden-high street the restaurant avoids the throngs of tourists and caters more specifically to a local crowd.
I believe I will be dreaming about both the fish and the potatoes for the next few days. Thank you, Andy for a ‘Greek’ night-out (get it!?).
