To Haché, Or Not To Haché

I was excited for this place. Located right down the street from me near the funky Camden Town Markets, Haché is a burger joint that I have been reading about since my arrival. Reviewers raved about the widespread gourmet burger choices, tasty meats, and fun atmosphere from the get-go. Not to mention it was even mentioned in a “Camden cheap eats” article. Unfortunately, this restaurant fell short on all fronts.

The menu was extensive. And on a Saturday night our table for 2 inside the cozy small interior didn’t take long too long of a wait. After waitress recommendations on both our orders, we awaited the arrival of the Chicken Honey-Moutarde burger (with bacon and melted cheddar) on fresh ciabatta, and the ‘Steak Catalan’ (i.e. Chorizo topped burger topped with fresh chili and jam) also on their ciabatta. Customers can choose between their homemade ciabatta or brioche buns.

Unfortunately, both our meals were lacking in taste. The chicken in my burger was overcooked, and the bun was covered in too much flour, making the meal dry and crumbly. My friend’s meal was also lacking in taste and the bun once again took away the meat’s chance of making a good impression. I wonder if things would have been different had one of us ordered the brioche, or had we chosen a night apart from a busy Saturday, but with so many restaurants still on my UK list, I don’t think I’ll have the opportunity to find out. Sorry Haché, but in a city filled with gourmet burgers (with price tags lower than yours…), I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
