The name says it all really. It is what it is: no misleading hipster names here. If you like burgers, or you like lobster, or you like both – then this place is most definitely for you. Before the start of my meal I thought of myself as more of a burger gal. Don’t get me wrong, as I can appreciate a good lobster – but seafood has always taken a back seat to my sushi and burger fantasies. However, after this meal I believe my outlook on lobster has been changed…
There is no menu. The waiter walks over and asks what we would like to order…we tell him we haven’t received our menus yet. He says there are 3 options: burger, lobster (grilled or steamed) or lobster roll. Everything is 20 pounds, and each order comes with fries and salad. Well that was easy.
It’s possible to split half a lobster and half a burger if you have someone else at the table wanting to do the same thing. Wanting to try both, my order was the half-burger (fully loaded with bacon and cheese – you want to get the most for your money, right?), and grilled half-lobster. The lobster was amazingly tasty. Maybe only a tad overcooked but the spices were fantastic and the time it took work for the food made it even better. Cue lobster revelation! The burger was great too, but nothing to write home about. The true experience came from the mix of the two. Together the meal was huge, and to say I went home full would be an understatement! Luckily I had planned ahead and ate a very small lunch hours before the meal so I was ready for action.*
Words of wisdom? The place gets packed. B&L doesn’t take reservations except for tables over 6, so plan accordingly and go with a big group (perks include the booth tables, no wait, and the ease of splitting a bill where every meal was the exact same price). Luckily B&L has a few locations around London so you can choose the one closest to you. Bon Appetit!
*Whoever thinks eating out is just a simple task is seriously mistaken…hours of foresight and preparation go into the decision!!
