Easily one of the hardest menu choices I’ve had to make in a while, Park Tavern’s weekend brunch menu absolutely kills it. Although the large line can be discouraging, there is the option to make a reservation (which can be difficult to commit to for brunch if you’ve had a rough/late Saturday night) but can be worth it; or there’s the option to go after 1pm at which point the line seriously subsides. My friend and I had the luck of scoring a table at the bar without any wait and avoided the hassle of the dreaded brunch wait. *
Pictured above is my brunch choice of cast-iron baked farm eggs. This dish was the perfect combination of salty ham, spinach, and Gruyere cheese. Accompanied with side toasts this gooey, hot (temperature wise: extremely!) mess did not disappoint. However, as I ate I couldn’t help but notice a fried-duck egg sandwich pass me by. Topped with avocado, bacon and garlic sauce this item immediately made it to the top of my list for items to try next. The chicken sandwich and smoked salmon benedict also sounded mind-blowing. With helpful and fast service this brunch checked a lot of boxes.
It’s safe to say that Park Tavern made it back on my “must-try” list as soon as I signed the check. There were simply too many items left un-tried (Bloody Mary & chicken sandwich included) that showed such potential. Thus, in the words of California’s favourite governor: ‘I’ll be back’.
*much worse than the simple dinner or lunch wait, the brunch wait tops the list as worst meal-wait due to its mixture of unfortunate states including hung-over-ness, tiredness, and ‘han-ger’ (hungry + anger).
