Numero 28

Switching cities here to satisfy your taste buds on the East coast, this small and cozy pizza restaurant is one of my favourite pizza shops in New York. (And in a city with such tough competition, that’s saying a lot). However, No. 28 is not your average New York pizza slice. And for the record, if we were talking about just plain old great New York pizza, my vote would side with John’s.

No. 28 serves pizza like they do in Italy, and more specifically Naples. With the margarita being the clear winner, there’s no reason to go fancy with toppings here.* The wood-fire over perfumes the crust with the perfect oven smell and the wood tables and chairs make the atmosphere one of cozy elegance. One of my only complaints is that their wine menu is of limited choices and although they used to let you BYO, this policy has sadly changed. But with such tasty pizza who needs good wine to dull the taste (have I written enough posts yet for you to tell when I’m joking? Wine>everything).

Perhaps what’s best about this place is its cozy location right in the heart of the neighbourhoody West Village. And with stiff, well-known competition such as John’s and Joe’s right around the corner, there’s almost always a table open.

*Ok but meat on pizza is pretty much always a good idea too…
